Recent Acquisitions #18
Dec. 10th, 2013 02:10 pmWent with my dad to the hospital today. Nice comfy cars both ways, although the driver going out drove far too close to a car in front for my comfort. Kept wondering if I ought to say something to him, but didn't. Chicken. I hate to think how the driver of the other car felt about being hounded; I know if my husband had had someone following him that closely for that distance, he'd have pulled into the side to let them pass. There wasn't any need for it, either: yes, the other driver was going a bit slowly, but there was no traffic behind and our driver could easily have fallen back to a more reasonable (and safer) distance. I was glad we had someone different coming home.
While waiting for our ride home, we had expensive drinks and rolls in the WRVS (Women's Royal Voluntary Service) tea room. They had books on sale for 50p so I had a peek and ended buying a 'slightly foxed' mmp of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes. I think it'll make a nice book for reading in bed before going to sleep. It was published in 1969 which makes it in pretty good shape for a book over forty years old. Just some browning and foxing.
I had started Blackmoor by Edward Hogan as a bedtime read but suspect it may return to a charity shop unfinished. The writing is poor and the story's not grabbing me. Slugs? A family secret? Slugs?
