On Friday husband had the day off so, after his doctor's appointment, we went to the flea market, then trawled the charity shops. Ran out of money before I ran out of Interesting Books.

Money was also expended on a glass zebra. Okay, laugh. You haven't seen it!

Went into the local bookshop and it turned out they'd remembered a conversation we had some time ago and were brandishing a Shiny New Copy of Philip K. Dick's The Broken Bubble, just published by Gollancz. So great that they remembered! Now I can look at fixing up my ex-library first edition without worrying I'll be rendered bookless if it all goes wrong.

Gollancz's blurb refers to their 2014 edition as 'one of Philip K. Dick's early unpublished novels.' Presumably they mean unpublished in his lifetime, as it was previously published in 1988 by Arbor House.

Picked up books in the bookshop, the market, and the charity shops. In a couple of cases I should definitely have looked more closely at what I was buying.

The Broken Bubble by Philip K. Dick;
Danger UXB: The Heroic Story of the WWII Bomb Disposal Teams by James Owen;
Death's Acre: Inside the Legendary 'Body Farm' by Bill Bass and Jon Jefferson;
The Magician's Apprentice by Trudi Canavan;
The Life of Charlotte Bronte by Elizabeth Gaskell;
How to be a Woman by Caitlin Moran;
The Annals of Imperial Rome by Tacitus (translated by Michael Grant);
Love My Rifle More Than You: Young and Female in the US Army by Kayla Williams;
Swingin' and Singin' and Gettin' Merry Like Christmas by Maya Angelou (which I thought was a collection of short stories but which turned out to be vol 3 of her autobiography, oops)
and
An Experiment in Autobiography by H.G. Wells (which is volume 2 of HIS autobiography, oops x2).

That last book has been appropriated by my father, last seen sticking a page back into it 'for me'. Bah.
