Recent Acquisitions #69
Dec. 12th, 2014 08:00 pmHusband had to have a fasting blood test this morning which meant it was easiest for him to take today off. So afterwards we went round the flea market, the local indie bookshop, and the charity shops. A pleasure shortly to be cut off, probably.
Nothing much in the flea market--at least, nothing I was prepared to pay the asking price for. A nice double set of playing cards from the Sunday Telegraph, made by Waddingtons. The vendor said they were Art Deco, 1930s, but I have no idea if that's true. Anyway, at £5 they were too pricey.
I had more luck with books. In the indie bookshop, I found another present for my dad, and I found a present for husband in one of the charity shops. For myself, I got:
My Antonia by Willa Cather;
Early African-American Classics, edited by Anthony Appiah,
Wicked by Gregory Maguire (because folk keep telling me how good it is)
and
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simison (because
monissaw liked it).
